FAQs

What is the purpose of the Blak Angels Investment Network?

Blak Angels exists to grow intergenerational wealth and economic self-determination by increasing First Nations participation in early-stage venture investments. We empower and equip First Nations angel investors while amplifying their leadership in Australia’s investment ecosystem.

Who is eligible to become a Blak Angel?

First Nations people with a passion for supporting early-stage ventures via angel investing, and with an interest in contributing to the investment ecosystem, can apply to be a Blak Angel. Contact us for more information.

Why is this network needed?

First Nations Australians face systemic barriers to angel investing and opportunities to grow intergenerational wealth. These barriers result in low representation on cap tables and missed opportunities to drive community-led impact and self-determination.

How does Blak Angels support First Nations investors?

We provide a culturally safe and strategic entry point into angel investing, offer targeted capability-building, and facilitate access to investments in innovative and high-growth venture opportunities. Our network fosters peer connection, knowledge sharing, and long-term empowerment for First Nations angel investors.

What kinds of ventures does Blak Angels invest in?

We invest in innovative and high-growth, early-stage ventures. While sector-agnostic, we prioritise opportunities that deliver impact for Community, Culture, or Country. Founders must demonstrate strong commitment through a scalable customer strategy, and have at least one full-time team member dedicated to growing the business.

What is the Blak Angels investment model?

We co-invest through syndicate structures, partnering on deals led by experienced investor groups with a proven track record of strong returns. We participate in opportunities where terms are already established, a lead investor is in place, and a complete data room is available for due diligence. Ventures must also be open to SPV-based investment. Our long-term vision is to establish our own fund and take a leading role in future investments.
